Holiday Beginning Today;
Last Day To Pay

A reminder that all
central government
employees will start
their vacation at the
end of business today
and return on Monday,
January 5, 2009.
Some government
institutions will offer
limited services, while
those services deemed
"necessary", like health
and police, for example,
will operate normal.
Autonomous state
agencies like the
Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE)
and the Instituto
Nacional de Seguros
(INS) have different
holiday hours. Central
offices of state
institutions may be
closed, while agencies,
like telephone, electric
and water services, will
be open.
The only legal holidays
are December 25 and
January 1.
Banks (state and
private) will be open,
though the hours of
operation may vary from
bank to bank. Many in
the private sector
follow the government
holiday schedule and
will be closed. Best to
check ahead.
