Only 64% Of High School
Students Passed National
Exams
The results of this
years national "bachillerato"
exams are in and the
picture doesn't look to
good, as the Ministerio
de Educación Pública (MEP),
reports only a 64% pass
rate, down from 67% last
year.
The results were made
public by public
education minister,
Leonardo Garnier, who
expressed concerns since
only 32.000 of the
48.000 high school
students passed the
national exams.
"There are 16.000
students who failed
during the past school
year, prompting a number
reforms to the rules of
repeating a grade to
stop the increasing
number of deserters and
to avoid situations
where students have to
be expelled", said
Garnier.
The national exams
includes mathematics,
biology, chemistry,
physics, social studies,
civic education, French
and Spanish. Garnier
said that physics showed
the lowest results.
