Plan Helps 20,000
Caracas - Almost
20,000 Venezuelans have
received ophthalmologic
surgery in Cuba to date,
thanks to the bilateral
health agreement inked
eight years ago.
Venezuelan coordinator
of the accord, Johnny
Ramos, stated that
19,617 people from this
country have received
ophthalmology attention
in Cuban medical centers
accompanied by 35,200
relatives, who were also
evaluated and treated
when necessary.
Ramos told Venevision
channel those figures do
not include the
thousands of Venezuelans
benefited with the
Operation Miracle
program, whose aim is to
heal eye problems.
He stated that in case
of the health agreement,
the objective is to
assist complicated
pathologies existing in
Venezuela like cancer,
paraplegics,
quadriplegics, and bone
marrow and liver
transplants, among
others.
The official said that
all treatments are free
of charge and thanks to
the Cuban cooperation,
which has fostered the
installment of integral
diagnosis and
rehabilitation centers
in Venezuela, patients
can continue the
treatment in the South
American country.
