Boyeros Parade A Cold
And Wet One This Year
The traditional annual "boyeros"
parade took place in San
Jose yesterday amid rain
and poor attendance due
to a lack of promotion
by organizers.
The boyeros (herders),
covered in plastic, led
their oxen and carts
along Paseo Colón and la
Avenida Segunda from the
early morning.
Notwithstanding the
constant rain, the
parade took place as
normal, but without many
to applaud.
Lacking were the
children, as only a few
were on hand to see the
big farm animals pull
the traditional Costa
Rican carts.
The big winners of the
parade where those who
took to selling coffee
and hot chocolate to
stave off the cold and
the rain. Business was
brisk by the evidence of
empty cups - that sold
for ˘350 each -
along the parade route
and the carts.
