Begin Construction of
Railway Linking Their
Capitals
CARACAS - The
governments of Venezuela
and Argentina Wednesday
launched a project to
construct a railway that
will connect Caracas
with Buenos Aires at a
ceremony in Caracas.
Argentine Ambassador to
Venezuela Alicia Castro
and Venezuelan
Infrastructure Minister
Isidro Rondon attended
the ceremony at the La
Rinconada train station.
"It's a realizable
utopia, a train that can
cross from north to
south of the South
American continent,"
Castro said at the
event.
Castro said such a rail
link would benefit trade
and economic exchanges
between the two
countries at the
northern and southern
ends of the South
American continent.
According to Rondon, the
time span for the
project and its total
cost are yet to be
determined as they are
still in the initial
phase of the
construction.
Ambassador Castro told
reporters early this
month during a three-way
meeting among presidents
of Brazil, Venezuela and
Argentina that the three
countries were weighing
the creation of a
regional airline and
train network as a way
to better integrate
their nations.
Besides an alliance of
airlines, the leaders
were considering "a
dream that today appears
utopian" of a railway
stretching from Caracas
to Buenos Aires, Castro
