GUATEMANA - Guatemalan
indigenous leader and
Nobel Peace Prizewinner
Rigoberta Menchu stated
Tuesday that Evo
Morales' victory in the
revocation referendum
ratified the Bolivian
president's special
leadership to solve his
people's problems.
"We are satisfied with
the news because it is
necessary that the
country take deep steps
in the participation of
indigenous people,"
Menchu told Prensa
Latina.
Menchu congratulated her
Bolivian friend and
brother and called for
the people's unity, in
which, she said, he has
the minorities' respect
and recognition of the
immense majority of the
population to have an
honorable life.
The Nobel Peace
prizewinner noted that
the Bolivian statesman's
victory cannot be seen
as problematic, rather a
decision by autonomous
communities on their
fate and an experience
for Latin America.
The Andean
country's president,
vice president and
several prefects were
ratified with over 60
percent of votes in the
Sunday consultation held
in Bolivia. |
