US Neglects Central
America Anti-Drug Battle
MANAGUA - Nicaraguan
President Daniel Ortega
said the US keeps
neglecting Central
American anti-drug drive
instead of supporting
their actions in a
region taken as corridor
between Colombia
(producer) and the US
(consumer).
At the ceremony on the
28th birthday of the
Nicaraguan Navy, Ortega
added that the illegal
trade threatens regional
security by introducing
its tentacles in an area
of little resources.
He reminds that the US
supplies Mexico near
$1.2 billion to fight
the scourge while
Central America gets a
few cents, an issue
exposed at the recent
Summit in Cartagena de
Indias, Colombia.
Ortega added the above
behaves like a magnet by
attracting traffickers
to Central America and
asked the US to supply
one billion dollars to
fight the scourge.
He added effective work
also involves closing US
borders to the
traffickers and making
Colombia renounce the
income drug trafficking
generates.
President Ortega also
