Heavy Rain Next Week
Expected To Usher In the
Rainy Season In The
Central Valley
The Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN)
- national weather
service - predicting
strong rains for the
Central Valley as the
transition from the dry
to rainy season begins.
Originally the rainy
season was predicted to
have started the week of
April 16-20.
Evelyn Quirós of the IMN,
explained that a weather
systems located in the
Gulf of Mexico will be
responsible for most of
the rain next week.
Yesterday afternoon the
Central Valley was hit
by isolated rain after
almost a week of hot,
sunny and dry weather.
Quirós added that the
rainy season for the
Pacific north
(Guanacaste) is expected
around the middle of
May.
The rain means good news
for ICE's hydro electric
plants as water
reservoir levels are
above normal. For
example, the Arenal
reservoir is currently
538.2 metres above sea
level, higher than the
537.6 expected for the
start of the season.
