Public Holiday Thursday

Public Holiday Thursday
May 1 is an official public holiday in Costa Rica and all government offices, institutions, banks and most private businesses will be closed.

Embassies like the U.S. embassy in San José will also be closed.

May 1st or May Day is traditionally celebrated in Latin America as Labor Day.

May 1 - like Mother's Day (August 15) and Independence Day (Sep 15) - is a holiday that is not moved to the following Monday if it falls on a weekday (Monday to Friday).

For workers who are required to work on May, article 148 of the Código de Trabajo (Labour Code) stipulates double pay.
