Supreme Court Judges
Complained Of Bad
Treatment By US
Officials in New York
Three Supreme Court
judges say that they
received similar
treatment at the hands
of U.S. immigration
authorities, similar to
the treatment given the
Fiscal General de la
República (chief
prosecutor), Francisco
Dall’Anesse, last week
at the Miami
International airport.
The judges made their
complaints known Monday
afternoon in open court
in a letter and signed
by judges Roberto
Gutiérrez Freer, Víctor
Ardon Acosta and Luis
Fernando Salazar.
The judges said that
their situation on a
flight with a stop in
New York.
The letter said that
Corte Suprema de
Justicia (Supreme Court)
will be making a formal
complaint before the
Ministerio de Relaciones
Exteriores (Foreign
Ministry) so that they
diplomats can manifest
their concerns to the
United States
government.
Dall’Anese was detained
for more than an hour by
U.S. immigration
officials at the Miami
airport last week. In a
press conference on
Friday, Dall’Anesse said
that an immigration
official finally
accompanied him to the
airline counter to
confirm his departure
reservation.
The incident occurred
last Wednesday. The day
following the Fiscal
filed arrived in Costa
Rica and immediately
filed a complaint with
the Foreign Ministry.
The U.S. embassy in
Costa Rica promptly
offered Dall’Anesse an
apology and assured that
the situation was during
a normal check of
