Correa for May Day March
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has proposed celebrating May Day in peace and joy, in comparison to opposition demonstrations announced by some trade unions.

In front of the marches convened for May Day by some trade union sectors to protest an announced cut of benefits from collective contracts in the public sector, Correa called for the Ecuadorian people to hold a march in support of the government.

The president accused what he called "certain union and bureaucratic elites" of taking advantage of collective contracts, and reiterated they will be revised to avoid excessive benefits.

Correa pointed out the revision aims to guarantee the legitimate rights of unionized workers, and will secure stability.
