Colombia Denies Having
Problems With Ecuador
Colombian President
Alvaro Uribe on Friday
denied there is a crisis
between Colombia and
Ecuador, saying the
people of the two South
American countries "are
brothers in history, at
present and in the
future."
"We here in the
Colombian government do
not have any problem
with the Ecuadorian
government, we only have
fondness," Uribe said in
a statement to Ecuador's
Sonorama radio network.
He also reiterated his
commitment to defeating
"terrorist organizations
that have deeply damaged
Colombia."
Ecuador broke off
diplomatic ties with
Colombia on March 3, two
days after Colombia's
army attacked a base of
the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC),
in Ecuadorian
territories.
During the raid on FARC,
Colombia's largest rebel
group, 25 people,
including four Mexican
students, were killed.
Almost two months after
Colombia's intrusive
attack, Ecuador has not
reestablished diplomatic
relations with Colombia. |
