No Shortage of Rice
Expected in Costa Rica
Facing a shortage, the
retail chain Wal-Mart in
the United States, has
limited the purchase of
rice to a maximum of
four packages per
customer. In Costa Rica,
retailers and providers
of rice promise there
will be no shortage.
Te ministro de Economía,
Marco Vargas, assured
that Costa Rica will not
see a shortage of rice,
as 60% of the
consumption in the
country is from national
production and the
balance from imports.
The minister expalined
that as of March 31
there was 53.500 tonnes
of rice ready for
consumption, which is
sufficient supply for
three months.
Vargas added that the
national production of
rice for the period
between April and
December will reach
102.019 tonnes, the
equivalent of five to
six months supply. |
