Food Crisis
Ecuador and other South
American nations are
currently preparing a
regional strategy to
face a possible world
food crisis.
Ecuadorian President
Rafael Correa addressed
Wednesday this issue
with his Argentinean
counterpart Cristina
Fernandez and Venezuelan
Foreign Minister Nicolas
Maduro, who recently
visited Quito.
Correa proposed
"creating a regional
strategy to avoid the
shortage of supplies of
basic foods."
This concerns mutual
support to defend
against the lack of
food, stated the
Ecuadorian statesman by
explaining that if
Ecuador has a lot of
rice, the country will
store it in case that
Argentina or Venezuela
lack it later, and vice
versa.
The president warned of
the possible world food
crisis and insisted on
joining forces "to
prepare ourselves."
Among priority measures,
Correa stated the
execution of popular
fairs to sell products
at lower prices and the
delivery of $30 in cash
subsidies to low or no
