Peace prevails in
Ecuador on Saturday less
than 24 hours before the
start of elections of
130 delegates to the
Constituent Assembly.
President of the Supreme
Electoral Court (TSE)
Jorge Acosta called on
the 9.37 million
electors to go to the
polls Sunday to choose
their representatives,
thinking in the future
of their children and
grandchildren.
He stressed that these
representatives will
have the task to draft a
new Constitution to
unite the nation, so
that it can go through a
new political, economic
process.
The TSE chief noted that
during the 45-day
campaign its entity
offered equal
opportunities to the
over 3,000 candidates
and thus will respect
the will of the
citizens.
Although publication of
results has been banned,
surveys carried out so
far point to a victory
of governing Alianza
Pais movement, which
might get between 60 and
70 seats in the
Constituent Assembly. |
