Sales of Honduran
Islands in Caribbean
Investigated
The Honduran Foreign
Ministry confirmed on
Monday that an
investigation will be
opened into the sales of
national islands and
islets in the Caribbean
Sea to foreigners.
Deputy Foreign Minister
Eduardo Enrique Reina
said that the
Territorial Waters and
Seas Directorate has
been instructed to open
the investigation after
parliamentarian sources
warned about the
situation.
According to the
Honduran Constitution,
the State's land,
including the islands in
the Caribbean Sea, can
only be bought by
Hondurans by birth or by
state-owned
institutions. Otherwise,
the deal or contract
will be annulled.
Reina noted that the
Foreign Ministry will
work in conjunction with
other government
institutions to protect
the country's
sovereignty. |
