U.S. Fugitive Captured
in Costa Rica
A man
wanted in New Mexico on
charges of attempted
murder and conspiracy to
commit murder has been
nabbed in Costa Rica.
Himmelsbach fought off a
group of police
officials in the arrest
at his house in
Rohrmoser, west of San
José. Police had to call
for back up to subdue
and detain the man.
Himmelsbach is currently
being held in the
Hatillo immigration
centre, where he escaped
within an hour of his
arrival, but apprehended
again as police tracked
down his movements. The
man was moved to the
high security detention
area where he will be
held until deported to
the United States.
Authorities say
the 26 yeard old Himmelsbach
had been working
illegally in Costa Rica
as a travel agent
at the travel agency
Costa Rican Vacations in
Rohrmoser, and have
found no records of
Himmelsbach entering the
country and believe he
did so illegally,
He's expected to be
returned to New Mexico
within seven to ten
days.
Himmelsbach is accused
of conspiring to kill
his ex-girlfriend while
he was in jail in 2005
and of being involved in
a drive-by shooting of
an occupied home with a
high-powered rifle.
He also faces charges of
assaulting three people
with a deadly weapon,
child abuse, shooting at
a dwelling and criminal
damages to property.
Participating in the
apprehension of
Himmelsbach was the
international police
agency, INTERPOL,
working with Costa Rican
law enforcement,
including the Grupo de
Apoyo Operacional de la
Fuerza Pública.
