Private Jet Veers Off
Runway, Closes San Jose
Airport For 6 Hours
For the second time in
less than a week,
emergency crews at the
Juan Santamaría (San
José) international
airport had to deal with
an airport emergency.
Yesterday afternoon
shortly after 12:50pm, a
private jet with 7
people on board had a
mechanical failure
causing it veer off the
runway on takeoff.
The Sabreliner was
leaving for Cartagena,
Colombia, with five
passengers, the pilot
and co-pilot, when it
left the runway, as
firefighters responding
to the emergency had to
use foam to soak up the
spilled jet fuel.
Two people were injured
by impact of the
aircraft leaving the
runway, one of the
injured was a pregnant
woman, who were
immediately attended to
by Cruz Roja (Red Cross)
personnel.
The aircraft with the
call letters N726JR was
piloted by Mario
Quesada.
Last week a jetliner
returned to ground
shortly after takeoff
due to an alarm in the
cockpit.
Yesterday's accident
forced the closure of
the airport for six
hours, causing delays in
arrivals and departures.
Some 2.500 to 3.000
people were affected by
the airport closure that
returned to normal
operations by 7:00pm. |
