Rain, More Rain and Then
Some More
According to the
Instituto Meteriologico
Nacional (IMN) - the
national weatherman -
some 80 millimetres
(3.15 inches) of rain
fell on San José Monday
from the effects of
hurricane Felix.
The rain started in the
early afternoon, down
pouring at times, all
over the Central Valley.
In Quepos a "red" alert
was called by the
Comision Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) for
residents to be prepared
for the rising waters
from the rains in San
José.
A man crossing a creek
in a motorcycle in
Alajuela was swept away
by the strong currents.
He was later found
alive, as he was able to
hang on to a tree and
rescued by the Cruz Roja
(Red Cross).
The heavy rains are
expected to continue
today and possible for
another couple of days
as the Felix makes its
way into Nicaragua and
Honduras.
Although September and
October are the months
of the rainy season with
the greatest amount of
rain fall, the rains of
yesterday and the coming
days are heavier than
normal.
Daniel Gallardo,
president of the CNE,
assures that it is
unlikely that Felix will
hit Costa Rica, the
country is on a "yellow"
alert for the indirect
effects, a cautionary
condition according to
the CNE statement.
The heavy rain and
strong winds have left
many parts of the
country with damage and
resources saturated.
Gallardo added that the
effects of Felix is
going to worsen things. |
