2006 Nobel Peace
Prize Winner To Visit in
December
2006 Nobel Peace prize
winner, Muhammad Yunus,
of Bangladesh, will be
visiting Costa Rica by
the end of the year to
participate as a speaker
in the graduation
ceremonies of the EARTH
University.
The 67 years Yunus will
be speaking at the
private university on
December 7.
"The participation of
Yunus is a historic
event for the university
given the man's stature
and contribution to the
needy", said university
director José Zaglul.
Zaglul added that the
last Nobel Peace prize
winner to address the
university was Mikhail
Gorbachev, president of
the former Soviet Union
in June of 2000 when the
EARTH university
celebrated its 10th
anniversary.
EARTH (Escuela de
Agricultura de la Región
Tropical Húmeda)
University located in
Guacimo, Limón, is a
private, non-profit
university dedicated to
education in the
agricultural sciences
and natural resources in
order to contribute to
sustainable development
in the humid tropics by
seeking a balance
between agricultural
production and
environmental
preservation.
