$3 Billion In Exchange
Trade between the
People’s Republic of
China and Costa Rica
will reach us$3 billion
this year, the Chinese
Vice-Minister of
Commerce Ma Xiuhong
estimated in a meeting
with Costa Rican Foreign
Commerce Minister Marco
Ruiz.
That amount would
represent a huge
increase from the us$146
million business the two
nations carried out in
the year 2000.
Minister Ruiz agreed
with the size of trade
by explaining that,
besides the goods traded
directly, China also
takes into account Costa
Rican goods that enter
from third countries,
such as the flowers and
plants that first go
from here to Holland.
According to the Foreign
Trade Promoter (PROCOMER
in Spanish), Costa Rica
sold China us$1 billion
in goods last year.
