Boost Integration
Ecuadorian President
Rafael Correa leaves for
Caracas Thursday to
evaluate with his
Venezuelan counterpart
Hugo Chavez ways to
boost the South American
political-economic
integration process.
Correa will travel to
Venezuela accompanied by
Foreign Minister Maria
Fernanda Espinosa and
Oil and Mining Minister
Galo Chiriboga.
They are expected to
analyze issues related
to regional integration
mechanisms like the
Andean Community of
Nations (CAN), the Union
of South American
Nations and Bank of the
South.
Also on the list is to
discuss with Chavez the
return of his country to
the CAN, from which
Ecuador departed last
year after Peru and
Colombia signed a free
trade agreement with
United States.
Correa said he will go
with Chavez to the
Colombian locality of
Puerto Ballena, to
attend the opening
ceremony of a
Colombian-Venezuelan gas
pipeline.
According to the
international press,
Correa's presence along
with Colombian President
Alvaro Correa is based
on an invitation made to
Ecuador to join an
Andean gas pipeline
that, possibly, will
also go through Peru and
Bolivia.
