New Bridge or Just Old
One With A Paint Job?
Drivers to and from San
José and Alajuela will
notice something bright
and shiny, is it a new
bridge? No, just the
plain old one, the one
that has been patched up
and the source of much
of the congestion on the
portion of Autopista
General Cañas, but with
a new paint job.
The Consejo Nacional de
Vialidad (Conavi) has
decided to paint the
curb and concrete
retaining wall yellow
and green fluorescent
and add reflective tape.
Conavi engineer Randall
Gonzalez, said that the
idea for the bright look
was that of the
contractor who submitted
to the authority that
the paint would change
the drab look of the
bridge and enhance the
panorama.
Gonzalez added that the
contractor insisted on
the paint job as an
experiment to see how it
would affect safety and
be part of the regular
maintenance of all
bridges.
The contractor Conansa
said that this will be
only bridge painted for
now as the contractor
continues with the clean
up of all the bridges
along the General Cañas
between the Sabana park
and the international
airport.
The contractor is paying
for the cost of the
paint job as the
contract, according to
Gonzalez, is only for
the sweeping of the
bridges.
