Cocaine Price Crash in
Europe Spurs Meeting in
Costa Rica
The crashing price of
cocaine in Europe has
authorities on alert and
has prompted an
gathering of
international
authorities in Costa
Rica to discuss the
problem.
Authorities say that the
laws of supply and
demand also affect the
illegal drug market and
the crashing prices are
due to the Colombian
drug cartels shipping
more drugs to foreign
markets.
The alert comes from the
European Police
organization (Europol)
which has convened a
symposium of
co-operation to fight
drug trafficking with a
base in Costa Rica,
supported by the
government of France.
The police chiefs of
Central America, Mexico
and the Caribbean are in
Costa Rica receiving
training by Europol
experts.
In 2007 alone Costa
Rican authorities has
confiscated a large
quantities of cocaine
headed north to North
American and European
markets.
The symposium will
continue until Thursday
and there is hope that
Europol and Central
American authorities set
up an office to share
