Colombian Ambassador to
Debate at Mexican Senate
The Mexican Senate
Foreign Relations
Committee is expected to
discuss a proposal to
request the withdrawal
of Colombian Ambassador
to Mexico, Luis Camilo
Osorio.
The situation was
triggered by allegations
from Democratic
Revolution Party Senator
Rosario Ibarra that
Osorio was supposedly
coordinating activities
of Colombian covert
agents in Mexico.
Ibarra, who also
presides over the Upper
Chamber Human Rights
Committee, recalled that
the current ambassador
is under investigation
in his country for
alleged links with
paramilitary groups,
which perpetrated many
crimes and
disappearances in
Colombia.
According to
international human
rights bodies, in his
condition as Attorney
General, Osorio closed
the files on crimes
against humanity
committed by
paramilitary commanders,
who have gone
unpunished, explained
Ibarra.
The senator also urged
the legislative body to
support the humanitarian
exchange of prisoners in
Colombia and the peace
efforts to put an end to
armed conflict in the
South American country.
