Playa Tamarindo With No
Police
One of the most
conflictive beaches and
one of the most visited
by foreigners has been
left without police for
the last four months.
Tamarindo has been
plagued by drugs and
violence, increasing
over the past year and
now residents and
visitors have no one to
protect them at all.
Although it seems
incredible, the truth is
that the Tamarindo
delegation of the Fuerza
Pública (police) was on
borrowed lands and last
August it was asked to
move out by its owners
and since Tamarindo has
had no police station.
Tamarindo residents are
forced to call on the
police detachment in
nearby Villa Real.
However, the Villa Real
officers don't have a
vehicle at their
disposal to make the
trip to Tamarindo to
respond to emergencies.
Fuerza Pública officials
are asking residents to
be patient as soon there
will be a detachment in
the area.
So, for the time being,
the beach town is run by
criminals as there is no
police to patrol the
area that, according to
some residents, is
becoming more
conflictive every day.
