2008 Marchamo Goes On
Sale Monday
The Instituto Nacional
de Seguros (INS) will
being Monday to start
collecting for the 2008
Marchamo for some
800.000 vehicles.
The state institution
will have 820 points of
sale available for
vehicle owners to
purchase their sticker,
that includes
supermarkets, state and
private banks and
insurance agents.
The majority of the
private banks will also
make available payment
by way of the internet.
To find out the amount
owing for any particular
vehicle, the INS will be
taking phone calls at
243 9999 or toll free at
800 marcham (800 627
2426) or the internet
at:
www.ins-cr.com.
All vehicles are
required to have their
marchamo paid by
December 31 to continue
to circulate on public
roads. Owners of
vehicles that are not in
use should make a
request with the
Registro Nacional to
un-register the vehicle,
otherwise the marchamo
is due and payable and
late fees and interest
are added to all
outstanding amounts
owing after December 31.
This year the marchano
costs 9% higher due to
an increas in the Seguro
Obligatorio Automotor (SOA)
- mandatory insurance
portion of the marchamo.
The marchamo also
includes items like
property tax, stamps for
wildlife, a portion for
the Seguridad Vial and
sales tax.
The mandatory insurance
portion for passenger
vehicles is ˘13.475
colones regardless of
make, model year and
value.
As an example a 1986
Mercedes Benz pays
˘59.405 colones, while a
2002 Hyundai pays
˘106.705 colones. |
