Another Gas Price Hike
On The Way
Loosen your purse
strings to pay more for
gasoline as the
Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (Recope)
made a request for
another round of
gasoline price hikes, on
the heels of the latest
increase that went into
effect at 00:01 Friday.
The price hike, if
approved, would increase
the cost of a litre of
diesel by ¢25 colones,
super ¢22 and regular
¢20.
The request is based on
increased international
prices for crude oil and
part of a formula that
allows the state
refinery to adjust its
prices on the second
Friday of each month.
The prices, before they
can be changed at the
pumps, has to be
approved by the
Autoridad Reguladora de
Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
- the government agency
that regulates all
public prices and
services.
The current price for a
litre of super gasoline
is ¢548, regular ¢535
and diesel ¢486. The
prices a year ago, on
November 10, were ¢501,
¢471 and ¢345
respectively.
When the new prices go
into effect, which could
be as early as the end
of the next week, the
new price for a litre of
super will jump to ¢570,
regular ¢555 and diesel
¢511.
