New Home Owner Finds
Body Buried in Patio
Joe Lawrence got more
than what he bargained
for when he bought his
retirement home with a
beach view in Puerto
Viejo de Talamanca, near
Playa Negra, Limón; a
dead body buried in his
new patio.
The gruesome find was
discovered when the
American began
remodeling his new home,
breaking up the concrete
patio, finding a body
buried under the cement,
wrapped in a plastic
bag, left behind by
previous owners.
One of the workers
contracted for the
remodelation found an
unusual item under the
concrete and suspecting
it to be a human body
notified police
immediately..
Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
investigators were
quickly on the scene to
dig up the area and once
confirmed that the
remains were human began
to search for reports of
missing persons and the
previous owners.
The body was sent to the
Ciencias Forenses
(forensics centre), in
San Joaquín de Flores,
Heredia, where forensic
experts will try to
determine the cause of
death and the identity.
Unofficially, all
evidence points to the
cover of a crime.
Decomposition of the
body indicates that it
could have been there at
least a year.
