Nicaragua Digs in
against Epidemics
Nicaragua is beginning a
popular campaign against
epidemics Saturday,
aimed at averting an
outbreak of
leptospirosis, which has
claimed ten lives so
far, and preventing
other diseases like
dengue.
Over 80,000 activists,
including health
workers, army and police
members, and university
students will be taking
part in general
mobilization Saturday
and Sunday.
Local authorities say
the campaigns aims will
substantially reduce
spreading of
leptospirosis and
dengue, as well as their
fatal victims.
The campaign members
will visit one million
urban and rural houses
to inform the population
and carry out tasks to
eliminate sources of
infection. |
