Guatemala Mayor Candidate Wounded
Zacapa mayor candidate by the "Encuentro por
Guatemala" Party, Liberato Granados, was wounded
during an attack in that eastern department of
the country this weekend, his relatives
confirmed Sunday.
Granados, 54, was in front of his house when
some people in a car shot him several times.
The attack took place only few hours that "Encuentro
por Guatemala" Party holds in the capital today
its assembly of proclamation of candidates.
The meeting will also present the presidential
couple, made up of Nobel Peace prizewinner
Rigoberta Menchu and businessman Luis Fernando
Montenegro.
The September general election campaign has seen
tarnished due to several acts of violence, which
have killed over 20 people.
