Gasoline Prices Pushes Up Inflation
The constant hike in fuel prices caused an
inflationary increase by 0.22% in April,
increasing it to 2.98% for the first four months
this year and to 9.76% in the 12 months that
ended in April, according to the Statistics and
Census Bureau.
Several economists agreed that the upward trend
is a bad sign for the inflation goal of 8% for
2007 that the Central Bank had set.
Expert Alberto Franco asserted that the news is
no surprise, since it is a logical outcome of
the steady increase in the prices of fuels.
His assertion is confirmed by the fact that the
Bureau reports a 2.53% increase in
transportation costs - which includes fuels - in
April alone.
