Guatemalans Unsure, Except Not to Vote
A new poll Friday on Guatemala's upcoming September presidential elections confirms abstention will win over any of the candidates.

The survey by Vox Latina showed 42.5 percent of citizens have not decided if they will vote, nor for whom they would vote.

Another survey, this one by Borges and Associates at the beginning of the week, found 27 percent are undecided and 10 percent are decided they are not going to polls.

Alvaro Colom, from National Unity of Hope, remains the favorite with 26 percent, followed by Otto Perez Molina, from Partido Patriota, who climbed to 15 percent.

Third place is occupied by Alejandro Giammattei, from State National Great Alliance, with 7.1 percent, and fourth corresponds to Nobel Peace prize-winner Rigoberta Menchu, from leftwing Encounter for Guatemala, with three percent.

The candidates have yet to awaken enthusiasm and Ligia Blanco, of the Research and Social Studies Association, affirms none of the parties have shown anything new, a view with which political scientist Claudia Lopez concurs.

According to Lopez, people have not yet discovered a true option.
