Cuba
Braces for Natural Disasters
The popular drill "Meteoro 2007" takes place in
Cuba on Saturday and Sunday, as a precaution
against the coming storm season, affecting the
island every year from June 1 to November 30.
Civil Defense's General Staff Lieutenant Colonel
Domingo Carretero told Prensa Latina the country
are due to verify this weekend security measures
and how direction structures and communication
work to face up these meteorological phenomena.
Due to its geographical location, Cuba is
whipped by tropical storms, so that it has been
obliged to develop a protection system for
people and goods, recognized by international
organizations.
According to Jose Rubiera, chief of the Forecast
Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology,
the current storm season could be especially
very active.
