Two
Earthquakes Shook Costa Rica Yesterday
Two earthquakes shook and rattled residents
yesterday, the first occurring at 9:58 a.m. and
the second at 12.41pm.
According to the Observatorio Vulcanológico y
Sismológico de Costa Rica, Universidad Nacional
(OVSICORI-UNA). the first quake originated some
23 kilometres southeast of Golfito, in the
Southern zone, some 22 kilometres below the
surface, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale.
The second quake originated 10 kilometres
northeast of the Arenal Volcano, registering 3.8
on the Richter scale.
In the first quake reports from Cuidad Neilly
were that the shake and rattle was so strong
that object fell from shelves and walls, said
Maria Miranda, a spokesperson for OVSICORI.
In both cases no injuries or material damages
were reported.
