Siamese Twins To Be Separated
The Siamese twins, Yuriela and Fiorella, will
soon be travelling to the United States for an
operation that will separate the two at a
California hospital. The operation is scheduled
for September.
The mother of the two little girls received the
news with surprise and joy when learning that
her babies will soon be separated.
Dr. Gerardo Mora, who has been caring for the
twins since birth, explained that the operation
will be performed at the Lucile Packard
Children’s Hospital of the Stanford University.
With over 650 physicians and 4750 staff support
and volunteers, LPCH is a world-class,
non-profit hospital devoted entirely to the care
of babies, children, adolescents and expectant
mothers.
The twins are now one year and seven months old
and are joined at the thorax, the reason for the
extended time for medical experts to reach a
decision on whether or not to operate.
The recovery is expected to take several months,
the twins and their family having to remain in
the U.S. while under care.
The Mending Kids International foundation will
fund the cost of the operation, the same
organization that in 2002 was involved in the
separation of Guatelaman Siamese.
