Rejection of US Migratory Policy in Guatemala
With rejection of a hardening of US migratory policy, a regional meeting on the subject concluded in Guatemala.

"Abuse of migrants worsens as an economic and social phenomenon is treated as if it were an issue of national security," informs the final declaration of the meeting that had a participation in the hundreds.

The document reflects regional concern over increased deportations from the United States the difficulty of Central American States in protecting their citizens and offer them basic attention.

Questioned by Prensa Latina about criticism of the governments for not taking stronger stances in favor immigrants, Guatemalan deputy chancellor Marta Altolaguirre said "Saying that we will be energetic is easy, acting with energy also, but having an answer is not always Possible," and expressed concern over family disintegration caused by deportations.

The three-day meeting included representatives of all the Central American nations, Mexico, Panama and Belize as well as organizations for the defense of immigrants, the churches and regional and international institutions.
