Private Management of Zoos
The Ministry of the Environment
approved that the two state zoos
–Simon Bolivar, downtown San
José, and Santa Ana, west of San
José - remain under the
management of the private Pro
Zoo Foundation (FUNDAZOO).
This ensures the proper care of
396 animals of 95 different
species which are kept at the
two facilities.
A FUNDAZOO source said that the Foundation is enlisting donors in order to
address the needs of the two
zoos, particularly improving the
conditions in which each animal
is kept, and which are currently
estimated at us$22 million.
