Teachers Strike Had Little
Support
The strike called by the
Asociación de Profesores de
Segunda Enseñanza (APSE) for
yesterday had little support.
The march in downtown San José
from the Parque Cental to the
Ministerio de Educación Pública
building had little disruption
to traffic and daily downtown
life, other than closed
intersections for a several
minutes to allow the handlful of
teachers who came out to
protest.
Jesús Vásquez, president of
APSE, considers that MEP is not
fulfilling its promises and vows
to continue to fight.
The main point of discontent by
the teachers is that MEP waits
to the last minute to appoint
teachers, leading to confusion
and empty classrooms.
Also they want better training
of teachers and limiting classes
to not more than 30 students.
