Power Cuts To Continue Into Next
Week, ICE Says
The Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE) says that the
rotating electrical power cuts
will continue into next weeek,
though it has yet to notify if
it will keep to the same
schedule of this week or if it
will reduce the cuts and the
hours.
And it has yet to announce if it
will discontinue the rationing
during this weekend, as it did
for last Sunday and Tuesday
holiday.
ICE officials say that the rain
that has been falling on many
parts of the country is
contributing to the recuperation
of the hydro-electric
reservoirs, but are still not at
optimum levels.
The Instituto de Acueductos y
Alcantarillados (AyA) - water
utility - also informed
yesterday that they are
continuing to have problems in
providing water service to all
communities due to the rotating
power failures that affect their
pumps.
For its part, the Defensoría de
los Habitantes (Ombudsman) has
submitted a number of consumer
complaints to the regulating
authority (Aresep) for the power
blackouts and is asking the
regulating authority to demand
explanations from ICE.
