Costa Rica was appointed as new member of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Committee is in charge of advising the UN General Assembly on the corresponding issues and reviews every year the funds and programs, planned or under way, regarding refugees.

“Costa Rica has a record of proven interest and devotion in the search of lasting solutions for refugees. It has traditionally become home to refugees and to those who seek asylum to preserve their lives and their freedom,” the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, from Portugal, commented on the appointment of Costa Rica.
