Bolivia Improves CAN for Colombia
The Bolivian government will deliver Colombia an Andean Community of Nations (CAN) that is stable and strengthened, Deputy Foreign Minister Hugo Fernandez stated Tuesday, a few hours before the opening of the 15th Summit of the regional bloc.

Fernandez told Prensa Latina that the handing over of the pro-tempore presidency to Bogota is internally important for that entity, made up of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia.

The official, who will represent Bolivia in the session on common foreign policy, said that during his mandate, the Morales government boosted integration and reactivated projects like labor migration, security and health at work, among others.

Foreign ministers arrive today and on Wednesday Presidents Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Alvaro Uribe (Colombia), Alan Garcia (Peru), and Michelle Bachelet (Chile), who already confirmed their presence.

"Bolivia hopes," stated Fernandez, "that as of this forum the CAN will be more integral and promote more social than trade projects to benefit people."

The 15th Summit is due to conclude June 14 with the signing of the Tarija Declaration.
