Death
Leads Guatemala Elections
Electoral violence is currently on the rise in
Guatemala, where an activist from the National
Unity of Hope party, leading in votes, was
murdered Friday.
Edgar Rolando Roman, 36, was shot dead when
people in a car attacked him near the Santo
Tomas port, in the department of Izabal.
Noel Vargas, mayor of Puerto Barrios, the
capital of Izabal, repudiated the crime and
requested to investigate those responsible.
This is the third political murder registered in
Guatemala, where two collaborators of the
government Grand National Alliance party were
also riddled with bullets Thursday.
