Costa Ricans Prefer Quick Lose Weight Methods Instead of Exercise and Diet
A recent study shows that almost half of all Costa Ricans suffer from obesity and the reason why many Costa Ricans should try to lose a few pounds.

Overweight and obesity are considered a global epidemic, affecting some 300.000 million adults and 22 million children under the age of 5 around the world. In Costa Rica, more than 1.5 million are included in those numbers.

And that is the reason why the losing of weight has passed from a fad to one of importance to maintain health and the reason for the recent growth in lose weight fast options.

Costa Ricans generally do not want to put in the effort and the time it takes to lose weight through exercise and diet, preferring the quick methods to losing weight.

Liposuction is among the quick methods preferred by Costa Ricans. The main reason is that this method offers results quickly.

Other lose weight quick methods include acupuncture and mesotherapy treatment.

Mesotherary, pioneered by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952, is a minimally invasive procedure that is widely used in Europe and elsewhere with microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Tiny "medicinal bullets" are delivered directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of skin) that are highly specific to the condition being treated.

Mesotherapy can take up to two or three months and can cost up to ¢30.000 colones (us$58) per session.

Gastric by-pass surgery is another choice preferred by Costa Ricans, whereby the surgery makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine. One feels full more quickly than when the stomach was its original size, which reduces the amount of food eaten and thus the calories consumed. Bypassing part of the intestine also results in fewer calories being absorbed. This leads to weight loss.

The surgery to reduce obesity or promote weight loss is performed at CCSS (state) hospitals Calderón and México and also at private hospital and clinics. The state hospitals have long waiting list while the is no waiting at the private clinics, the cost can be more than ¢6 million colones (us$11.600).

In contract to natural weight loss through exercise and diet, the medical treatments imply risks for each procedure through complications than can include infections and death.
