Urged to Fess Up TLC
Survey
The opposition to the
Tratado de Libre
Comercio (TLC) -
the Central America Free
Trade
Agreement-Dominican
Republic (CAFTA-DR)-
demanded the Costa Rican
government publish
results of a poll it
commissioned about the
level of public support
for the agreement.
In a letter addressed to
minsitro de la
Presidencia, Rodrigo
Arias, the Frente
Nacional de Apoyo a la
Lucha contra el TLC
coordinating Committee
Chairman Oscar Campos
explained that the claim
stems from awareness
that results did not
favour those who promote
the agreement.
The former deputy said
members of the governing
Partido Liberación
Nacional (PLN)political
leadership unofficially
released the information
during a meeting on July
26.
The results favored the
"NO" and involved an
analysis to determine
possible participants in
the referendum to be
held in October 7th.
Costa Ricans taking part
in the referendum are
expected to vote against
the agreement by a very
overwhelming percentage,
according to members of
the Frente Nacional.
"If the poll was paid
for with public funds,
the people have the
right to know its
results and the
government has the
inescapable obligation
to act with transparency
throughout this process"
said Campos. |
