Correos Begins Implementation of New Address System
Beginning today mailing a letter to Vázquez de Coronado and Moravia will include the new postal code in the address as part of the Correos de Costa Rica (post office) plan to change the addressing system to allow a more exact location of every house or commercial building by standardizing addresses.

Giovanni Campos, head of the department of Distribución de Correos - mail distribution - said that the post office will keep the traditional addressing system for some time, slowly incorporating the new system.

The traditional system is one of reference points that indicates the general locality of the address, while the new coded system specifies the street and avenue, house number, district and province in the address.

"The transformation stage of addresses is slow", said Campos.

Once these two areas are codified, Correos plans the same for Goicoechea and Tibás as it continues in its plan to codify the entire country.

For some the new system is much more complicated as they will need to know the street and avenue number, which many do not know, especially due to the lack of street signs, which the Correos plans to install as part of their program.

The change was announced last March.
