Guatemalan Reporter's
Family Ask Justice
Relatives of Guatemalan
journalist Hector
Ramirez, who was
murdered four years ago
in an attack in
Guatemala City, held a
demonstration Tuesday to
demand justice against
those responsible for
the crime.
On July 24, 2003,
violent disturbances
were provoked by FRG
(Guatemalan Republican
Front) and threatened by
ex Dictator Efrain Rios
Montt, during which a
group of masked men
attacked Ramirez, known
as Reporter X, with
sticks and stones. He
died of a heart attack.
Rios Montt was trying to
force the Supreme
Electoral Court to
register the FRG
candidacy for president.
Ramirez' son, Hector
Ramirez, told Prensa
Latina that although
authorities know this,
they have yet to solve
the crime and that the
case has stalled. We
have been waiting seven
months for a resolution
from the
Constitutionality Court,
he asserted. |
