Panama: Posada Case
Hearing Postponed
The Panama hearing to
try former officials of
the Moscoso government
who released terrorist
Luis Posada Carriles,
was put off until August
14, a lawyer of the
process revealed on
Tuesday.
The hearing was to be
held today in the 12th
Penal Court, but the
defense of accused
Concepcion Corro, then
chief of the Prison
System, requested more
time to examine the
file.
The new date was already
fixed as an alternative,
Javier Viques, lawyer of
the student movement in
the process that
condemned Posada
Carriles in 2000 for
attempting to
assassinate President
Fidel Castro, told
Prensa Latina.
Among the main
defendants are former
Government Minister
Arnulfo Escalona and
former Directors Carlos
Bares (Police) and
Javier Tapia
(Migration).
Posada Carriles and his
accomplishes Pedro
Crispin Remon, Guillermo
Novo and Gaspar Jimenez,
who entered the country
with explosives to blow
up a theater where the
Cuban head of State
would speak, were
pardoned by Moscoso in
2004, a few hours before
concluding her mandate.
The 12th Penal Court
must decide whether to
try the former Moscoso
officials or close the
case, as the defense
