US Caravan Shuns
Anti-Cuba Blockade
US Reverend Luis Barrios
said that in addition to
solidarity the
traditional caravan to
Cuba is aimed at
exposing the US
blockade.
In visiting the Old Age
Investigation Center,
the member of the US
religious group Pastors
for Peace said the
importance of this
project is its goal to
undermine this policy
within the US.
Barrios along a group of
members of this 18th
Caravan that arrived
Thursday in Havana from
Mexico, said they
deplore the immoral and
illegal nature of the
commercial blockade.
He reminded that the
caravan collected 90
tons of humanitarian aid
in touring 127 Canadian
and US cities where they
explained Cuba's reality
and denounced the
consequences of the
blockade.
The churchman admitted
to the risks of
challenging the laws of
a superpower yet he
voiced his will to
challenge them under the
principle of "subversive
solidarity".
Those that violate the
US anti-Cuba regulations
may face five-year jail
sentence and $20,000
fine.
Barrios said that in
looking on what Cuba has
done for humankind, "we
realize that we must
commit and can not
afford to just sit
there".
The positive lesson is
that we continue
educating the US people,
creating awareness and
annoying Washington that
opposes these exchanges.
Since 1992, the 18
caravans have brought
over 2,700 tons in aid
without a license from
the US Treasury as a way
to protest the anti-Cuba
