Meddling in Domestic
Affairs
Delegates of Central
American labor unions,
who met in Managua to
commemorate the 28th
anniversary of the
Sandinista Revolution,
announced that they will
collect funds in their
countries in order to
lend a hand to their
Costa Rican peers and
their efforts to have
the “No” win in the
coming October 7
referendum.
On that date, Costa
Rican registered voters
will decide whether or
not their country joins
the Central
America-Dominican
Republic-United States
Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA),
which has already been
ratified by Nicaragua,
El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, and the
Dominican Republic.
However, a spokesperson
for the groups backing
the “No” rejected the
decision made in Managua
as meddling in Costa
Rican domestic affairs.
A counterpart of the
“Yes” side warned that
no meddling from foreign
nations can be accepted
in a wholly Costa Rican
